SPORT NZ COVID-19 UPDATE

Back to News

As you will be aware, New Zealand will move out of Lockdown Level 4 on midnight Monday April 27. That means that on Tuesday April 28, we will move into Lockdown Level 3 – Restrict.

As the advice at Alert Level 3 is still to stay home except for essential personal movement, our Motorcycling New Zealand office will remain closed. We have a team working from home so we are continuing with business, however will not be issuing permits or licences at this stage.

More Information on Alert Level 3

Sport New Zealand will continue to publish information on play, sport and recreation in Alert Level 3. This information can be found here.  They are continuing to clarify situations and scenarios for sport and recreation categories with MBIE, MOH and the Minister.

Preparing for Alert Level 2

While their primary focus this past week has been (and continues to be) on clarifying issues related to Level 3, there is already some useful information on their website to guide thinking about Alert Level 2. There is a lot more work still to be done regarding Level 2. They are anticipating an update being available closer to Friday May 1.

And in terms of preparing for Level 2, they can confirm they are also working on two other aspects that may be of interest.

The first one relates to facilities. They are seeking further advice on the most appropriate cleaning and sterilisation process for sporting facilities, plant and equipment ahead of returning to play. They are working with the MoH In this respect, and will learn more from other industries e.g. construction, as they ramp up operations under Level 3. We will provide more advice on this as we move closer to Level 2

The second relates to Contact Tracing. They have a team working with the MOH and others like the hospitality industry and Privacy Commission on a sector wide solution e.g. app based and/or template contact tracing forms. Again, they will make more information available as we move closer to Level 2.

Please all keep safe and we will keep you updated as soon as we have more information.

Kindest regards

Virginia
