The Gathering of Geezers is an evening of fun and motorsport, in the name of charity, with 25 of New Zealand’s best motorsport legends in attendance, covering many disciplines from rally to saloon, jet boats to drag racing, speedway to bikes in attendance. These are the "Geezers". The definition of a Geezer is a retired kiwi competitor, who has won a major title and/or made a major contribution to NZ Motorsport. We also have Guest Geezers from overseas and "Geezers in Training" who are un-yet retired champions!

The 6th edition of this specular event will be on the 22nd November 2018 at the car and aviation museum, Warbirds & Wheels, at Wanaka Airport. The 300 guests will be regaled with tales of triumph and disasters, of near misses and close calls and of great life-changing moments from the Geezers. We have some exciting new faces this year and many of the great legends from the past dinners will also be returning, including our host Sky Sports Commentator, Stephen McIvor.

Our headline Guest Geezer has won eight National Championships in the USA in the fastest form of one on one motorsport in the world. This legend is air racing champion Bill “Tiger” Destefani, whose tales from the skies at 500mph (800kph!) will have you on the edge of your seats. Joining him on stage will be fellow legend Jeremy Burgess, who has won 14 MotoGP World Championships with Wayne Gardner, Mick Doohan and Valentino Rossi as their crew chief and mechanic. Burgess's machinery has achieved an impressive 280 podium finishes.

Other new and famous faces to our Hall of Geezers will be Bill Buckley, the kiwi dirt sidecar champion, Josh Coppins the former World Number Two Motocross Champion, Rodney Pohio seven times UIM World Jet Sprint Champion. Greg Rust the Australian motor racing presenter and commentator for the V8 Supercars championship and Andrew Stroud the New Zealand International motorcycle Champion. We will also be blessed with the New Zealand’s first woman to go over 200miles an hour, Drag Racer Faye Grant.

Alongside these talented and intriguing new Geezers, there will be a SuperDraw for some amazing prizes from the world of sport, luxury accommodation and breath-taking experiences.

Amongst the prizes and laughter will be a beautiful dinner, where the guests will be wined and dined with local gourmet produce.

The money raised from this event will go to two very worthy and appreciative charities, the Upper Clutha Children’s Medical Trust and the Wanaka Land Search and Rescue.

Solely manned by volunteers, the Wanaka based Upper Clutha Children’s Medical Trust was established in 2009 to support families in the Upper Clutha area who were struggling financially because of the demands placed upon them by their children’s health issues. It is the charity of choice for Warbirds & Wheels and Geezers is one of their main fundraising events with more than $100,000 given to date.

Upper Clutha families often face greater expenses than city based families because of their distance from specialist services and care. This area is the furthest distance from a base hospital in New Zealand and consequently travel for specialist consultations invariably involves an overnight stay. Financial assistance has been provided to over 139 families across a diverse range of health needs, general health issues, developmental problems and physical needs are also covered.

Our other charity of choice this year is Wanaka Search and Rescue. This organisation is one of the busiest back- country search and rescue groups in New Zealand, averaging 45-55 operations in a busy year.
Given that most rescues happen between November and March, that’s a huge commitment by the all-volunteer team. Their teams include bush, river rescue and specialist alpine, as well as a marine team covering lakes Wanaka and Hawea. These teams are coordinated by the incident management team that works with the Wanaka Police and the Wellington’s Rescue Coordination Centre to run the SAR operations. They exist solely on grants and donations. No-one gets billed for being rescued.

An individual ticket is $350 and $3000 for a table for 9 people (previously 8 at a table) with your very own Geezer appointed to being the tenth around the table!

To secure your table please email advising number of tables or tickets required and details for invoicing. Alternatively, you can make payment to the Geezer Charitable Dinner bank account 06-0594-0100868-01 using your company name as reference and email to book your spot.

Once you have booked and paid for your Geezers table, tickets and details will be emailed to you.

Mercure Oakridge Resort is a major sponsor of the evening and is the preferred accommodation provider. We encourage you to support this business.
