Road Racing

Motorcycle Road Racing derived its name not surprisingly from the fact, the first ever motorcycle races were held on public roads as long ago as the turn of the last century. The most famous, the Isle of Man TT races remain today.

Nowadays, however, all World Championships and major road racing events are held on purpose-built circuits. This is also the case here in New Zealand for our National Championship titles, although arguably the "Battle of the Streets" series, still held on closed public roads as the name suggests, remains the most popular with the public.

Our national championship classes are:
Production Superbike, 600 Sports Production, Formula III, 250cc Grand Prix, 125cc Grand Prix and of course our three wheel friends. Sidecars.

We also have several other sections of the sport catering for more specialist machines.
Miniature Road Racers, these are the smallest machines and regular events are held on kart tracks, carparks and airfields. The machines may be smaller and in most cases inexpensive, the competition is just as fierce as the big bikes.

Bears racing for machines of British, European and American origin, the largest event being the "Sound of Thunder" held annually in February at Ruapuna Raceway in Christchurch.
